The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is aware of several social media accounts pretending to be the ATO, senior executive staff and ATO officers.
These fake accounts offer support to people in the comments section of official ATO posts, but they are attempting to steal people’s personal information.
If you see a fake account pretending to be the ATO, do not engage with them.
Take a screenshot of the account, email the information to ReportEmailFraud@ato.gov.au and block the account through the social media platform’s reporting function. Visit www.ato.gov.au/scamalerts to find out more.
